USDF Dressage Awards Banquet 2014

Tornado, my American Mustang, and I had a very successful 2013 show season at 2nd level. Our avg. score was 64.11   My husband, David, and I decided we would take a trip to include the awards banquet in Lexington, KY to pick up our awards in person.  (Tornado stayed home.  He does not like to fly.)

We flew into Nashville, TN during an ice storm.  Fortunately we rented a 4-wheel drive vehicle and David has his class “A” driver’s license. The 2 hour trip took over 3 and ½ hours.  We saw cars that had slipped of the highway all along the way. I could feel how tense David was and we mostly stayed behind big rigs who usually know how to handle bad weather.

Arriving in 1 piece we had to get out of the car in below freezing weather and then David had the park the car. I will never get used to that weather.  I am a California girl all the way. We were staying at the same hotel as the event so we did not have to leave for 2 days.  We had a restaurant, shopping, vender booths and the silent auction. Plenty of activities to entertain us.

Mark Davis and his wife, Marge, drove from Dover, DE to personally give me the awards I had won from the American Mustang and Burro Association.  They are delightful people and made me feel special.  I was the only person I saw who had a photo shoot with my awards (Mark was a professional photographer).

The awards banquet was beautiful, with seating for the over 400 people who attended. The staff was friendly and made me feel like they were happy I came.

The event was amazingly organized. During dinner, a slideshow of pictures we had submitted to USDF were shown on 2 large screens. During the presentation you looked up at the screen to see when to go back stage.  In the backstage area you were organized into your groups and sent on stage at the correct time.  I got to go back stage twice, once with mark Davis.  The announcer let the attendees know Mark had come to personally give me my awards.  I was the only one that had a special person present.

I am delighted that we decided to make the trip.  It was fun and I got to buy a new dress and shoes.
